Madison Complex
Main Equipment Building for AT&T and Pacific Bell

The Madison Complex encompasses three separate buildings:

1. 433 Olive Avenue 19 stories
2. 434 Grand Avenue 12 stories
3. 420 Grand Avenue  16 stories

Each floor comprises approximately 22,000 sq. ft.

This project consisted of the complete refurbishment of the main chiller/cooling tower plants with approximately 4,000 tons of cooling capacity.  California Energy Designs, Inc., was the prime co-ordinator between the owner, the architectural/engineering team, and the installing contractor.

Shrine Auditorium

This huge auditorium holds over 6,000 people and was constructed in the mid-1920s.  It had an under-floor supply system with 100% fresh air and 100% exhaust.  We physically reversed the two 100,000 CFM supply fans and turned the under-floor supply plenum into a return.

Female Honor Rancho

This $10,000,000 project was unique because of its size. It consisted of 16 minimum-security barracks, which were a total of 52,800 sq. ft., as well as eight additional structures which housed vocational programs, inmate services, visitors building, a chapel, infirmary, inmate processing, indoor recreational facilities, and an activities center for facility employees totaling 51,200 sq. ft. We provided HVAC and plumbing design for this project.

Navy Housing
Adak, Alaska

We were responsible for HVAC, plumbing, and fuel distribution for the 505 housing units for military families at this facility. The heating consisted of 505 individual cast-iron boilers tied to a hydronic baseboard heating system.  The fuel for firing the boilers was JP-5 jet fuel. We designed the gravity-flow fuel distribution system for the entire facility.

Phase I

This sprawling housing development features a mix of apartments, townhouses, and single-family homes for this new university's faculty and staff. Phase 1, completed in 2002, consists of 207 units, which will serve as the cornerstone of a mini-city expected to mushroom over the next 5 years on the eastern edge of the Camarillo campus.

Brookfield homes is the developer and CED is responsible for all HVAC and plumbing design plus providing support to the architectural design teams to achieve an Energy Star rating.

Phase 2A & 2B

This project consists of the development of 242 residential dwelling units on the 35-acre project site located north of the phase I-C development. The combined 2A and 2B phases were developed in a mix of attached paired units and detached single family homes. Vertical construction envisions slab-on-grade, conventional two-story wood-frame construction with stucco exteriors and tile roofs. The development includes various significant common areas, including sloped common areas, and street frontages and a neighborhood park.
